Hello!

I just built a fresh set of Debian Ports installation images which are
using the latest Debian unstable kernel 5.14.6.

The images have not been tested as I currently cannot start my testvm
on the SPARC server I usually use for testing, so testing is currently
up to the users.

Since kernel version 5.12, Linux is finally working on larger ia64 systems
such as the RX2800 again where the kernel previously failed to boot. So,
if anyone has such a machine and wants to install it, it should now work.

On some ia64 machines, it may be necessary to pass the option

"hardened_usercopy=off"

on the kernel command line. For that, press "e" on the GRUB menu and
append the line above without quotes to the boot command.

PowerMac installation should also work with these images again, although
I haven't tested that yet.

Do they have the new initrd for hd-media?
Not yet. I have looked at the hd-media configuration files today in detail
and realized they need a bigger overhaul as they haven't been touched for
a longer time, also for other architectures.

So that requires a little more efforts but that will happen the next days
as I have the time for that now being on vacation.

FWIW, there is also a bug in apt-setup that prevented the images from working
and it was just fixed now by an updated package uploaded to unstable.

I will therefore provide new installation images tomorrow and also start looking
into the hd-media stuff.
